NICKY LAW today paid a glowing tribute to an unsung Rangers hero - goalkeeper Cammy Bell.

Law is one of several Ibrox players who have been lavished with praise during the 2013/14 campaign. The midfielder has enjoyed spells of fine form and has banged in nine goals in all competitions.

He has helped Ally McCoist's men storm 17 points clear in SPFL League One - and advance in both the Scottish Cup and the Ramsdens Cup

Elsewhere, hitman Jon Daly, top scorer with 18 strikes to his name, has also hit the headlines for his displays up front. But Law, who arrived on a free transfer in the summer, reckons keeper Bell , pictured left, deserves praise for his performances between the sticks.

The former Kilmarnock man has kept 16 clean sheets in 21 games since making his competitive debut back on August 31 - including in the last four games. And the 27-year-old has been outstanding in the hard-fought victories over Airdrie, Stenhousemuir and East Fife in the last fortnight.

Law believes his team-mate's contribution to the Glasgow club's cause has often been overshadowed by the outfield players.

But he feels the Dumfries-born keeper's importance to his boyhood heroes should by no means be underestimated.

Law said: "Cammy has made important saves for us at important times.

"He made a double save at 0-0 in the game with Stenhousemuir earlier this month, for example, that was huge for us.

"Then at 1-0 against East Fife on Saturday he made another great save when their player broke clean through on goal.

"We know how important he is to us."

He added: "Earlier in the season he wasn't called upon a great deal, but we still knew all about his qualities from working with him every day in training.

"He is showing them now with the saves he is having to make. He often doesn't have a lot to do in games, but when he is called upon he does his job superbly.

"He has made huge saves for us at crucial moments in games. Whenever we have needed him to produce the goods he has always done so."

Law has been greatly impressed with how Bell has adapted to the unique demands of playing in goal for Rangers this season.

He was used to being called into action frequently during games at former clubs Montrose, Queen of the South and Kilmarnock.

But at Rangers - a full-time club playing in what is largely a part-time league - he has had to spend long spells doing virtually nothing.

Law reckons having to pull off saves so infrequently generates special pressure for a goalie and he has been taken aback with how his mate Bell has coped with that.

He said: "It is testament to Cammy and his concentration levels he has managed to stay focused when we have dominated games.

"He has produced saves when he has been called upon. It is all about concentration more than anything.

"We all know how big a player he is for us. I have no doubt at all his form will continue to blossom. Having said that, hopefully he won't have too many saves to make between now and the end of the season!"
