LEE WALLACE admits the Rangers squad needs more investment if Ally McCoist's side are to challenge for the Premiership crown on their top flight return.

After cruising to the League One title this term, the Light Blues are now just one promotion away from a place amongst our elite teams once again.

Ibrox chief executive Graham Wallace targeted a top two finish in season 2015/16 and the Premiership title the following campaign in his business review last week. And Player of the Year Wallace has set equally ambitious goals as McCoist plots his summer transfer strategy to bolster his squad for the Championship.

He said: "It's important we look towards the next two, three maybe even four years.

"We know we need to get back up to the top as quickly as possible but when we get there we need to be able to compete with Celtic for the title. In two years that's where we see ourselves, but to do that we probably could do with a bit of help in terms of getting a few new players in.

"That's not a criticism of the squad we have now because we've got great players here who I've no doubt could challenge at that level.

"But a few more bodies would make us stronger again and would help us moving forward."

With the Third Division and League One titles already added to their honour roll, Rangers will look to complete three-in-a-row by clinching the Championship next season.

The second flight is set to be Scotland's most exciting division and Wallace can't wait to get down to business - and square up with former club Hearts.

"Pre-season will be important for us and we'll wait and see if the manager brings in new players," he told Ready, the Rangers matchday magazine.

"But regardless of that there is a massive incentive for us to do well in the Championship next season and if we can finish top of the pile we will be back where we belong.

"It's going to be strange having Hearts with us in the Championship. but the Premiership's loss is our gain.

"I'm sure the Rangers fans will look forward to going to Tynecastle and the other grounds in the division.

"It's something new for everyone and it should make for an interesting and exciting year."
