STUART McCALL has expressed confidence Newcastle United loan star Shane Ferguson will be able to help Rangers in their promotion push.

The Northern Ireland internationalist hasn't kicked a ball for the Ibrox club yet due to a long-term knee injury.

But the left-sided player, who only arrived in Glasgow a fortnight ago, came through an hour of an Under-20 match against Celtic in midweek.

McCall has been impressed with the 23-year-old's attitude and is hopeful he can star for the SPFL League One champions in the Premiership play-offs.

He said: "It's a little bit early for Shane, who got 60 minutes against Celtic. But he'll play on Monday for the 20s.

"In the game the other night he actually played in a midfield three. That's not his recognised position because he plays out on the left, but he did well.

"It's a bonus to have him how he is mentally. When you've been out that long you might only dip your toe in, but he wants to get on with it. Hopefully he will play a part in the coming games."

McCall's team take on Falkirk in their penultimate game in the Championship at Ibrox this afternoon and the Rangers boss says his men are fully focused.

He said: "We want to finish second. We might have to win both games and we're going to concentrate on trying to do that.

"Even if we do finish second, there are no guarantees. It makes it slightly easier, but you wouldn't be able to say whoever finishes fourth will have less chance of going up. Everyone talks about momentum and you want to have an injury-free squad if you like.

"You only have to look at last week's games in the semi-finals. It can be a decision or a sending-off that settles it.

"We'll just focus on this one then once it is over with, we'll focus on the Hearts game and look at where we finish, who we get and how many games we have to play."
