RANGERS youngster Calum Gallagher hopes an end of season trip to Hong Kong can get him off and running on the right foot for the new campaign.

The striker is part of the Light Blue squad who will take part in the Soccer Sevens tournament that will see the Gers take on Manchester City, Singapore Cricket Club and BC Rangers.

The top two teams from the group will progress to the quarter-finals as Rangers look to match their achievements of 2009 and 2010 reach the final once again.

Gallagher is joined in Hong Kong by the likes of Kyle McAusland and Barrie McKay as the kids get a chance to shine.

And the forward, who made his breakthrough into Ally McCoist's first-team squad in the closing weeks of the League One campaign, is confident he can handle the heat of battle as Rangers bid for a summer success.

He said: "I think a lot of the newer teams come over and they don't really take the heat and the playing conditions into consideration.

"So certainly having experienced the tournament will help but at the same time we've got boys here who haven't had a shot who will come in and really help us out.

"Hopefully we can do even better or look to maintain what we have done in the tournament so far.

"We're all really excited to get it started.

"I'll be looking to make as big an impact as I can come pre-season so this is a great position to be in coming here and you maintain your fitness.

"Hopefully over the summer I can just get myself fully prepared and come back flying."

As well as the Soccer Sevens, Rangers will field a team in the Masters tournament as the side led by John Brown look to defend the title they won against Dutch giants Ajax last year.

Andy Goram, Marvin Andrews, Michael Mols and Gers Under-20 coach Gordon Durie are all part of the Light Blues squad.

"It's a great family atmosphere when we're here," Gallagher told rangers.co.uk. "They are really willing to share their experiences and football knowledge with us as well as getting involved in our trip and making it a great experience for everyone.

"So it is excellent to have them with us."
