STUART McCall today praised the Rangers board for the backing he has received as he tries to steer the Ibrox club back to SPFL Premiership.

McCall's side has won successive games over Hibs and Cowdenbeath in the Championship to boost their chances of winning promotion.

The Gers are level on points with Hibs in second place - but can overtake them in the second tier table if they win their game in hand.

Returning to the top flight would help ease the financial problems the new Light Blues regime is working tirelessly to address.

And the Nine-In-A-Row great, whose side take on champions Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday, revealed he has been grateful for the help he has been given by the new directors.

He said: "The minute Kenny (Rangers assistant Black) and I joined the club the directors stressed they would do anything they could to help us and they've been true to their word.

"They have allowed us to get on with our jobs. But they've been very supportive. We know they are there and can pick up the phone if we need to talk to them."

McCall, who has signed a short-term contract until the end of the 2014/15 campaign, admitted there is a feelgood factor in the Rangers squad after their last two results.

However, he has urged his players to forget about their recent wins and focus fully on the difficult matches they have coming up.

After the game with Hearts on Sunday his side will travel to Dumfries on Thursday to take on Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.

He said: "We have got two of the hardest games we could have in the Championship coming up so we have to be fully focused on them.

"But there were a lot of good performances again and you can feel the belief and the confidence and the momentum building.

"That is what we have got to keep doing until we get into the play-offs and be in our peak form.

"The boys are enjoying their training, they are training well, the 20s are playing well and I even had trouble picking a bench and leaving boys out of the 18.

"That is a good omen but we have got to keep it going. It is still early days but the confidence and belief is growing among people."

Speaking to Rangers TV, McCall added: "There is a lot of spirit in there. When we first came in, the morale and confidence was low, naturally, but we have got back-to-back wins now.

"We needed a win here (at Ibrox). We certainly needed that, and we did it in style, there could have been a lot more goals. It was a good weekend. But we must focus on next week now.

He said: "It is good that there is no midweek game this week. We can have a bit of time on the training ground and not try to rush everything into it.

"We know we will be in for a hard game, but we will look forward to it and hopefully the fans will be here in their numbers cheering us on."
