STUART MCCALL insists his future as Rangers boss won't hinge on whether he can guide his side back to the Premiership this season.

The Light Blues face Hearts this afternoon knowing they must beat the Championship title winners if they are to have any chance of securing second spot in the standings.

McCall has made a considerable impact at Ibrox since replacing Kenny McDowall as boss in March but has a massive job on his hands to lead the Gers through the play-offs in the coming weeks.

It is set to be a huge summer on and off the park at Ibrox as the new board continue to rebuild the club and McCall reckons the manager's job is still up for debate.

He said: "I'll be honest, when I first came here I thought 'big challenge, I'll go in and try to help out'.

"I knew what was, not wrong, but there were issues with morale and confidence and those things. People were low.

"But the longer I've been in the more I feel I am really enjoying it.

"I would be comfortable and happy if I could stay longer.

"I came with the mindset of helping out for three months. I didn't expect anything.

"Obviously there will be big changes in the summer because there are eleven players out of contract.

"But I suppose these are big weeks for me.

"I genuinely believe that if we go up it doesn't mean to say I will definitely be here next year.

"By the same token, if we don't go up I don't think it's a sign I won't be.

"I don't think there are any guarantees either way.

"People might think if you don't go up that I won't be there - and if we do I will.

"But I don't think it's as cut and dried as that."

After taking over a side that was devoid of confidence and in the midst of a miserable run that could even have denied them a shot at the play-offs this term, McCall has given fans hope that Rangers can return to the Premiership at the first time of asking this season.

The Ibrox hierarchy face a huge call over who will be in the dugout next term and the nine-in-a-row hero is keen to continue in the job.

McCall said: "All my focus is on doing the best for the club.

"Listen, at the end of the day if we get up or don't get up and they say 'thank you very much' I have managed a club that has only had 13 managers in its history.

"So I have been privileged and honoured.

"But I have had a taste of it and I'm desperate to have more of it.

"People ask me, 'are you stressed out?' Well, no, not at the moment. I've enjoyed every moment of it.

"It's one up, two down, good results, bad results, but you just have to go with it.

"You are in work and working at a club which is a good club to work for. So I just focus on that and don't think of the negatives."

It is not just the future of McCall that is uncertain at present, with more than an entire team of players out of contract in just a few weeks time.

McCall is already compiling a dossier of potential targets for next season but admits the Ibrox deal situation is a tricky one.

He said: "I've got the list of all the players out of contract in every division up here and in the divisions below in England.

"Some clubs have a dozen players out of contract. It's not unusual these days.

"Unless you have a real hot property you want to get tied down.

"People can ask, why don't you offer them a contract?

"But imagine if you offered one a contract and didn't offer the other ten.

"It gets round and you need everyone together."
