STUART MCCALL insists it is all about the points - and not the performance - for Rangers when they face Dumbarton this afternoon.

The Light Blues make the trip to the Rock aiming to extend their advantage over promotion rivals Hibernian and move four points clear in the Championship standings.

Boss McCall saw his side held by Livingston on Wednesday night as the Gers' failed to hit top gear and their inconsistent run away from home continued.

Rangers have won just one - a 2-0 triumph over Hibernian - of their last five games on the road but they are still in pole position in the promotion race.

Victory over the Sons this afternoon would take them another step closer to securing second spot this term and McCall knows winning is all that matters at the business end of the campaign.

He said: "It is about the result. Obviously you want to put in a performance and there is a way to win but it is about the result.

"We have a decent record against them this year but it is always difficult going down there. It is a game we have got to go and win, it is as simple as that.

"It doesn't matter how we do it. It is about the three points

"It (the away form) is not a concern at the moment. I saw a stat that we had only won five games out of 15, which is true.

"But we have lost one in 12 and won four out of the last six. So you can use stats in different ways.

"The last two away games, at Queen of the South and Livingston, were difficult games and we expected to do better but we didn't.

"It will only become a concern if we don't win today. We probably put in our best performance away from home at Hibs."

Rangers will make the trip to Dumbarton with winger Shane Ferguson added to the pool that could only draw with the Lions in midweek.

McCall brought defender Lee McCulloch back into the starting line-up against Mark Burchill's side after he served his suspension for an elbow on Hearts' Osman Sow.

And the Ibrox boss insists his skipper doesn't merit the negative attention he receives from the Light Blue legions at times.

McCall said: "Since I've been here I would say the criticism has been unfair because he's not done a lot wrong.

"He's good in the dressing room and he's an important player for us.

"There were some big boys in their team in midweek and I thought I was proved right in bringing him straight back into the side.

"They were very strong in the air and we had to bring big Jig back for the game. He's done fine for me."
