ALLY McCOIST is confident the floodgates will open for Kris Boyd when he finally gets back on the goal trail.

The striker heads into the League Cup clash with Falkirk tonight having failed to score in his last four games.

All five of Boyd's strikes have come in knockout action as he netted a hat-trick against Clyde and bagged a brace against Queen's Park.

McCoist said: "He needs to score a goal just because he wants to score a goal. For no other reason than that.

"We're all convinced he'll soon be off and running. Strikers will tell you it is all about the team, but they don't mind scoring themselves. I was the same.

"Given the choice of me scoring in a 1-0 win or not scoring in a 5-0 win then I'd definitely have picked the latter. But I'd probably have got left out the team after that!

"You watch Kris in training and he's still blasting balls into the net, taking touches and working really hard on his finishing.

"I think he's arguably one of the most natural finishers we've had so, although he has to keep practising, his finishing is natural more than most.

"We're still creating a fair number of chances so I think it will just be a matter of time."

Boyd was joined at the head of the Light Blues attack by Jon Daly at the weekend as he replaced Nicky Clark at half-time of the 1-1 draw with Alloa.

And McCoist could pitch the returning striker in against the Bairns as he continues his recovery from knee surgery this summer.

He said: "There is a chance Jon will come into the reckoning.

"He played 45 minutes for the under-20s then came on against Raith and Alloa, so he is finding his feet and showing his fitness.

"I wouldn't have any problems at all with pitching Jon in."
