While the Gers' off-field issues have again grabbed the headlines in recent weeks, there have been some encouraging signs for McCoist and his backroom staff.
Their shock League Cup defeat to Forfar stands out as the only disappointment of the campaign thus far, but wins over Albion Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup and Brechin and Stranraer on League One duty have raised expectation levels amongst fans.
Next up for is a trip to Airdrieonians tonight, and McCoist is delighted with progress on the park as the clock ticks down to September 1 and he is able to field all of his summer signings at once.
He said: "I am far happier. I don't want to wish the next two weeks away.
"We have got to be happy with the way, outwith the Forfar game, that we have started.
"We believe we will only get better in terms of our consistency and our performances.
"We believe we have got good, good players to come in and strengthen the team and the squad."
Two of Rangers' main men so far this season have been new recruits Nicky Law and Jon Daly.
Cammy Bell and Nicky Clark are also eligible to feature as trialists against the Diamonds as Rangers play a rare Friday night fixture.
McCoist said: "I have still got to consider [the team], mainly because of the surface.
"I will have a think about it before we pick the side. It is not set in stone yet but I will have a think about it.
"I am all for it [Friday night football]. I am quite keen on it and looking forward to it.
"Plus, it gives me a chance to go to a game on Saturday as well."
