ALLY McCOIST is set to hold talks with Rangers chief executive Graham Wallace this week to see if he can add to his squad before the transfer window closes.

Gers gaffer McCoist was delighted with the progress his squad made on their pre-season tour of Canada and the United States earlier this month.

But he is still keen to bring in more new faces to boost his side's chances of winning the SPFL Championship and the Challenge Cup, League Cup and Scottish Cup.

He has missed out on former Scotland midfielder Don Cowie who chose to join Sky Bet Championship club Wigan instead of returning to his homeland.

But he would still like to add to his pool of players and will meet with Wallace this week to determine if there is any money available to him to do so.

The uncertainty surrounding the financial future of the Ibrox club - who announced on Friday that Philip Nash had joined the board on a temporary basis - could complicate his bid to strengthen.

Rangers announced last month that around 17,000 fans had bought season tickets for the 2014/15 campaign - around half the number who did so last season and the season before.

The Union of Fans, a group comprised of the main supporters organisations, had urged supporters to withhold their cash in return for guarantees over the stadium and training ground.

However, the club declined to co-operate and now many supporters will be buying tickets for second tier matches and cup games at Ibrox on a game-by-game basis.

McCoist admitted he could offload players, either on loan or permanently, in order to free up cash to bring in new players when he was attempting to land Cowie.

Rangers were ultimately unable to compete with the wages the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County player could command in the Championship down in England.

But McCoist could still look to move on a member or members of his current squad if he identifies a player he feels would enhance his side's chances of winning the Championship this season and completing "The Journey".

Rangers kick-off their new season a week tomorrow when they take on Edinburgh rivals Hibs in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup at Ibrox.

But McCoist, whose side play their final pre-season match of the summer against Derby County in England on Saturday, will not stop trying to bring in new faces when the competitive action gets under way.
