DARREN McGREGOR today insisted Rangers players were focusing fully on on-field matters despite the shock resignation of manager Ally McCoist.

McGregor was stunned to discover McCoist had quit as boss in the build-up to the SPFL Championship game against Queen of the South earlier this month.

The defender was brought to Ibrox in the summer by the legendary striker and has been given a regular game in the first team by him this season.

But the 29-year-old, who helped the Gers keep a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Livingston on Saturday, is adamant the uncertainty over the gaffer will not affect the team.

He said: "It's been hard and difficult, but as a football player, you can only influence what you do when you cross that white line.

"So for us, it's been training as normal. We've been listening to the experienced boys like Lee McCulloch and Kenny Miller. They make sure we're all on the right track.

"We just go in, train hard and look forward to the next game because that's what it all boils down to. We need to keep focused to get results and climb up that table."

And the former Cowdenbeath and St Mirren player is confident McCoist will see out his 12-month notice period despite speculation he will be paid off before then.

He added: "The gaffer has had a great career and has probably dealt with pressure all of his career so he just gets on with it.

"For me, he's dealt with it great and there's been no change in the training or his application in training and we're all still buzzing off him.

"We've not had any discussions at all. For us, it's just he's working his notice and we'll support him every single week until he decides to leave.

"It'll be sad for everyone when he goes. The gaffer's a legend here and I owe the gaffer a great debt for bringing me here.

"But he's still got 12 months to go, so I am looking forward to working for him for the remainder of that 12 months."
