DARREN McGregor believes Rangers are on course to make amends for last season's Challenge Cup final defeat to Raith Rovers.

McGregor helped the Gers reach the semi-final of the Petrofac Training- sponsored tournament on Tuesday night. He played at centre-half as Ally McCoist's side successfully overcame part-time East Fife 2-0 at New Bayview.

The victory set up a meeting with Alloa at the Indodrill Arena - with the winners of that fixture facing Livingston in the final.

Despite failing to beat the Wasps in the SPFL Championship earlier this season, the defender is confident of landing the silverware.

McGregor said: "It was important we came through the East Fife match without any injuries and got into the next round, and we did both.

"We're all well aware of the result in the final last season and we definitely want to win this cup. I know the league is the priority but as a player, you'd be lying if you were saying you didn't want to win cups, too.

"The games we could play in the semis and the final are winnable, but it's all about application and how we do on the day."

He added on the official Rangers website: "We know how difficult it will be with the surface at Alloa. The way they set themselves up can make it very hard to play football.

"But we know if we go there switched on and showing our appetite is right we can win, while we've obviously beaten Livingston this season.

"It doesn't matter what anyone says, a cup is a cup and you're still hungry to win it.

"The Petrofac Cup is something we want."
