SCOTT McMANUS will have friends and family in both ends of Ibrox wishing him well tonight as he looks to create cup history.

But the striker knows he runs the risk of upsetting his uncle if he plays his part in toppling Rangers.

The Clyde star is the nephew of former Gers boss Walter Smith and will realise a boyhood dream when he runs out against Ally McCoist's side in the Petrofac Training Cup.

The tie will see Barry Ferguson and Bob Malcolm take to the Ibrox dugout for the first time as they look to mark their return to Rangers with a shock win.

McManus joined the Bully Wee from Vale of Clyde earlier this summer and is determined to make the most of his chance to shine on the big stage.

He said: "It will be a nice night for my family and it has always been an aspiration of mine to play at Ibrox.

"I have always wanted to play there and I will have a lot of family and friends there. Hopefully they will all be cheering me on, but I don't know about my uncle right enough!

"It is a fantastic opportunity for me and I want to go out and show what I can do.

"My uncle has been really supportive of me since I got my move. I won't let it faze me. If I get a place, I am going there to do a job for Clyde and the Clyde fans.

"They have been great with me since I joined the club and really supported the team this season so it would be great to give them a win at Ibrox to celebrate."

The chance to take on McCoist's side at Ibrox is the latest milestone in a whirlwind few weeks for McManus that has seen him make the move into the professional ranks and score on his debut against Ayr United.

The 24-year-old has hailed boss Ferguson for his approach to management as he prepares for his biggest challenge to date.

McManus said: "Barry has been great with the boys and it does take a bit of time for things to settle in.

"But as the sessions have gone on we are picking up on the things he has been trying to teach us.

"It has been a real change for me coming from the Juniors. He is running it like a full-time club and that has been really beneficial for the boys.

"Six weeks ago I was still at a Junior club and now I have a chance of playing at Ibrox.

"I haven't really taken it all in but it is something I am looking forward to. If given the chance to play, I will give it my all.

"We have got a really strong squad, the training has been really intense of late because we all want to be in the team.

"It is a great chance for us so hopefully we can do ourselves and the club proud and get a result."
