KENNY MILLER hopes victory over Hibernian can kick-start Rangers' promotion push.

Stuart McCall got his first win as boss as his side earned a deserved 2-0 win at Easter Road to move within three points of Alan Stubbs' side in the Championship with a game in hand.

Miller sealed the win with a cool finish in the closing stages after Lee Wallace had opened the scoring just before the break.

McCall made the switch to a 3-5-2 formation for the capital clash as he looks to find a solution to Rangers' problems, and Miller was delighted it paid immediate dividends.

He said: "Hibs are a good team, but we have allowed them to dominate the games between us so far. It was a case of getting in to their good players and not giving them time on the ball.

"I thought the lads did that well. The three boys at the back were superb, they were on the front foot and never allowed them time to run off and turn.

"Our midfield were right up against them and locked on, while myself and Nicky Clark tried to drop back to help them at times. It was hard work.

"That is one game. There have been other positive performances this year and decent results, but we have not backed it up with any consistency. Hopefully this will give us the belief and wee bit of confidence that we are not quite as bad a team as everyone says."

Having shipped a handful of points to the likes of Cowdenbeath, Livingston and Alloa in recent fixtures, Rangers returned to winning ways at just the right time as they turned in one of their best performances for several weeks.

The Light Blues had lost three of their four encounters with Stubbs' side ahead of the trip to Leith as they have struggled in Scotland's second tier.

The two could meet again in the play-offs at the end of the campaign and Miller was pleased Rangers finally performed on the big stage.

He said: "We have eight games left and we might have four or six in the play-offs and we will have to be ready for it. They could still come out and say it's 9-3 on aggregate. So I don't know about putting down a marker. But it was important for us as a team to go out and perform like that in a big game.

"We have let ourselves down in these matches so far, games against Hearts, Hibs, Queen of the South and Celtic in the cup. It was important to prove to ourselves we can handle Hibs and can beat them because we were worthy winners."
