BILEL MOHSNI has set his sights on Champions League football with Rangers as he gears up for his competitive Light Blues bow next week.

Despite moving to Ibrox last month, the defender has yet to appear in a competitive game for Ally McCoist's side due to rules regarding the use of trialists in SPFL governed fixtures.

But long-term he is already looking to make an impact against continental opposition. He said: "When my agent told me Rangers were interested in me and they were in the third tier of Scottish football, I wasn't sure it would be that good. But this is a massive club and I want to be part of its history.

"It would be very good to help them back to the top and to perhaps get into the Champions League again."

Like fellow summer arrivals Richard Foster, Steven Smith and Arnold Peralta, the 26-year-old has endured a frustrating start to life at Ibrox, with his last outing coming in the 1-1 friendly draw with Newcastle a fortnight ago.

Mohsni will be available for selection when Rangers' registration embargo expires on September 1 and he can't wait to get down to business for McCoist's side as he aims to eventually star on the biggest stage of all.

"I was in France when we had our first league game of the season against Brechin and when I saw there were 44,000 fans at the game it was unbelievable," he told rangers.co.uk

"Everyone in the squad is looking forward to playing together and we want to play in our stadium and try to do well for our fans. I am looking forward to that.

Meanwhile, boss McCoist is interested in handing deals to trialist duo Steve Simonsen and Sam Kelly.

The pair have been training with the Gers in recent weeks and could now be added to the Light Blues squad.

McCoist said: "Steve knows we would like to offer him something if we can get Scott [Gallacher] out on loan to play games. It's quite simple.

"Sam has showed up well too in training. I haven't had a chance to speak to Craig Mather about him yet, but I will to see if there's a possibility we could maybe offer him something.

"I have said my priorities are at centre-forward and centre-half, there's no doubt about that, and Sam doesn't play either of those. He'd be a luxury but a nice one to have."

McCoist has also confirmed that Darren Cole has left the club by mutual consent.

The defender had been told to stay away from Murray Park after he failed to turn up for a recent friendly with Junior outfit Cambuslang Rangers.

The Ibrox boss said: "Darren's contract has been terminated. It's a mutually agreeable situation and hopefully he progresses."
