Mols: Gers fans are in a class of their own

Michael Mols says the Rangers fans are a one-off – and that clubs in Holland have been amazed at how the Ibrox support has stuck by the troubled club.

Mols is one of a number of high-profile players who will be on show this weekend for the club's 140th anniversary celebrations.

Ibrox is expected to be a sell-out for Saturday's game against Stirling Albion, and Mols is looking forward to seeing how the support has rallied.

He said: "Football fans in Holland think what is going on at Ibrox is amazing because the Third Division is the equivalent to playing in amateur leagues here.

"If Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV were to be relegated to that level, they would never have taken 45,000 supporters with them.

"Rangers and their fans are getting a lot of respect from the Dutch because of what they are doing.

"Even when we played AC Milan Glorie at the start of the year and there were 45,000 fans there to see some old men having fun in the park, people back home couldn't believe it," he told the Rangers website.

Yet, while the news Rangers continue to fill their stadium raises eyebrows across Europe, Mols has not been surprised.

"It's great the club is strong again, but it is not really a surprise for me to see the support still getting behind Rangers," said the Dutchman.

"The team is now in the Third Division, but what is happening is amazing because every league crowd is still over 45,000."
