KRIS Boyd will rediscover his scoring touch with Rangers when his old strike partner Kenny Miller returns to the first team.

That was the prediction today from former Gers midfielder Ian Murray today as the pair returned to training at Murray Park.

Boyd has drawn a blank in his last seven competitive outings for Ally McCoist's side -and missed an absolute sitter in his last match.

The 31-year-old fresh-aired the ball completely in the SPFL Championship game against Livingston at the Energy Assets Arena nine days ago.

The normally prolific forward's inability to hit the target in recent weeks has led to calls for him to be dropped for a spell by some Light Blues supporters.

However, Miller is set to make his eagerly-awaited comeback from injury in the second tier showdown with Raith Rovers at Ibrox this Saturday.

The former Scotland international has been out with a calf problem since scoring in a 4-2 win over Queen of the South at the end of August.

The 34-year-old, who returned to Rangers on a free transfer in the summer, has only featured four times in the 2014/15 campaign.

And Murray, whose Dumbarton side drew 0-0 with Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday, reckons it would be foolish to write Rangers off.

He said: "I think they will just get better and better and sharper and sharper with every game that they play.

"I think their frontline will grow in confidence as they pick up results. Their movement up front was certainly excellent when we played them.

"Having all of their best players available will obviously be important to them. In Boyd and Miller they have two quality strikers.

"They had a lethal partnership at Rangers before and I am sure they are both relishing the prospect of playing with each other week in, week out."

Rangers had their scheduled Championship game against Cowdenbeath postponed at the weekend due to the international break.

And that allowed Hearts to pull nine points clear at the top of the table thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over Alloa at the Indodrill Arena.

The Ibrox club has only played in eight games this season - but already their critics are starting to question if they can catch their capital rivals.

The Gers dropped four points in two games when they draw 1-1 with Alloa away and were thrashed 3-1 at home by Hibs.

But Murray, whose side has drawn Rangers in the next round of the Scottish Cup, believes McCoist's men will go from strength to strength.

He said: "Rangers are certainly playing against better teams in the Championship this season than they were in League One last season.

"But when you play against better teams, against full-time teams, most weeks you have to raise your own games as well.

"I don't think Rangers are under any illusions about the competition that they will face in this league.

"I know that Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall will have their guys ready every single week - especially in games at Ibrox.

"But if anything it will feel like they are getting back to where they are supposed to be."

Murray continued: "People criticise this Rangers team a lot. They say they are not a good team and don't play good football.

"But we have played them this season and that was not our experience.

"When you see them close up in a match scenario you see how sharp they are, how strong they are, how physical they are.

"It is very easy to criticise them. But there aren't many teams as good as them in our league.

"Having said that, who is to say that Hearts won't get better with the games that they play as well?

"They just lost to Hearts at home with a late goal - but they ended up getting crucified for it. It is the pressure you are under at Ibrox when you play foir Rangers.

"But they have a manager and some experienced players who know what to expect at Rangers and I am sure they will pick up."
