IN the last few years when Rangers have played poorly the question has been asked: "Is it because of everything that is going on off the pitch?"

My answer has always been: "No." As long as players are getting paid their wages their job is to work hard in training, perform on match days, win games and titles.

They can't do anything about what is going on off the park. They have to concentrate on doing their jobs as professional footballers.

The players who are supporters may have been affected by it. But I don't think it will have mattered that much to the others.

But now the future is looking brighter and the club is in safer hands there will be a better atmosphere in the stands.

I am sure there will be a carnival atmosphere among the travelling supporters at Cowdenbeath tomorrow. The next six home games will be packed.

The fans will be in fine fettle. There will be no more shouting at the board or protests. They will be concentrating on cheering on the team on the park.

If that can't live the players then nothing will. It comes at a good time as well as we are approaching the business end of the season.

Can Rangers fans really say in their heart of hearts that Rangers are going to finish second in the SPFL Championship? It is doubtful.

The way that Hibs, Queen of the South and Falkirk are coming up behind them it is important that they start winning games again.

They need to finish second and get a lift going into the play-offs. It is usually the team that is on the up that does well.

If you are struggling going into those matches you will find it difficult. Look at Hibs last season. They didn't win a game for weeks and then were relegated after losing to Hamilton.

Hamilton were on form, full of confidence and got the result they were looking for. That is where Rangers need to be.

Rangers have to start a run of results by beating Cowdenbeath at Central Park. But it won't be easy.

Jimmy Nicholl's side lost 10-0 to Hearts at Tynecastle last weekend. People expect Kenny McDowall's side to win this one 4-0 or 5-0. But football just doesn't work like that.

Rangers haven't thrashed many clubs this season. I am sure Kenny will just be concerned with winning and picking up all three points.

It can be hard going to these away grounds and getting results on poor pitches.

If they play the way they can then they should win it. But they will be under a bit of pressure and have to perform.

But if they can't get themselves up for it with what has happened at the club then there is something wrong. Plus, many of them are fighting for their futures.
