McCoist's side will get their cup campaign underway when they take on SPFL League One rivals Airdrie in their third-round match at Ibrox this evening.
The Gers boss dreams of taking the Gers all the way to the final - but is puzzled by the home of their Old Firm rivals being chosen to host the showpiece match.
McCoist reckons the SFA should have delayed naming Celtic Park and Ibrox as the venues for the final and semi-finals respectively until later in the competition.
He said: "There are arguments for and against it (Celtic Park staging the final). A similar argument would be that if we are lucky enough to get to the semi-final we will have a home venue.
"I can understand people not being happy with it. I would certainly be happy with it if I was Neil Lennon or Peter Lawwell.
"It possibly would have been better to wait a bit longer before deciding on the venues. For me, that would probably have been more sensible.
Meanwhile, McCoist has expressed his surprise at Easter Road being selected to host the Ramsdens Cup Final with Raith Rovers in April.
He feels for the Gers fans who will be unable to attend the showdown due to the size of the capital stadium and reckons tournament organisers would have been better off taking the game to Celtic Park.
McCoist said: "That decision baffles me. If I am the managing director of the sponsors I would have wanted it at the biggest venue possible.
"If the Scottish Cup Final can get held at Celtic Park then I would have thought the Ramsdens Cup could have been held at Celtic Park.
"It would increase the opportunity for coverage and indeed revenues. It would have been more sensible to me."
