ALLY McCOIST reckons Rangers will avoid creating a "monster" by sending their kids out on loan this season.

The Ibrox boss farmed out several of his Light Blue protégés in the final hours of the summer transfer window, with Barrie McKay, Calum Gallagher, Robbie Crawford and Luca Gasparotto all leaving on short-term deals.

With chances to impress for Rangers likely to be in short supply, the switches give the brightest talents at Murray Park vital first-team experience.

McCoist said: "I am a big fan of the players getting put out. I look back at two recent players who have had fantastic careers at Rangers and away from Rangers, and that is Allan McGregor and Charlie Adam.

"Allan went to St Johnstone and Dunfermline on loan and Charlie went to St Mirren and it didn't do them any harm at all.

"I think it is great to get the players out and getting experience of playing, most importantly, but an experience of an environment in football that isn't Rangers, that isn't Murray Park.

"Sometimes I feel you can create a bit of a monster here because this facility is so good and the players, as we all are, are incredibly lucky to have this and work here.

"It doesn't do anyone any harm to go somewhere not as welcoming and comfortable to train and play. It gives everyone a feelgood factor when they come back."

Rangers currently have eight players out on loan, with Craig Halkett at Clyde, Danny Stoney at Stranraer, Kyle McAusland at Brechin and Tom Walsh at Stenny.

McCoist gets regular updates to check on his young fringe stars.

"We have the lads' games covered," he told RangersTV. "All the staff go, from the youth department and our staff, and watch them.

"We are in constant dialogue with coaches and managers from the teams that the lads are playing with to see how they are, and not just performing during games, but also how they are training, how their attitude has been, how they are coming along and if they are pleased with them."
