DARREN McGregor today dismissed suggestions Hearts will down tools after romping to the SPFL Championship title.

The Jambos clinched the second tier when the Gers beat their city rivals Hibs 2-0 at Easter Road eight days ago.

But Robbie Neilson's side, who travel to Ibrox on Sunday, can still set a points record in the division in the 2014/15 campaign.

And Light Blues centre half McGregor reckons the Tynecastle club won't let up at all in their remaining league fixtures.

He said: "I don't think they will give up. I am sure that Robbie Neilson will want them to finish with pride.

"He might introduce some youngsters, but, by all accounts, their kids have been very good for them in the past.

"Anyway, the gaffer has made it clear that it is about us and not Hearts. We need to get in behind them."

McGregor publicly questioned whether Hearts could cope with the pressure of leading the Championship when they forged in front earlier this season.

Those words have come back to haunt the former Cowdenbeath and St. Mirren defender - as the Jambos have only lost one league game.

But the 29-year-old admitted he had been greatly impressed with how the runaway winners had conducted themselves.

He said: "I was reminded of my comment a few weeks ago and I'm not going to deny that I said it. I just need to take my hat off to Hearts.

"From my point of view, they had done great up until that point and it was interesting for me to see how they coped if we were a point behind them.

"That never happened and I've obviously eaten my words because we drew against Alloa and they kicked on. Fair play to them and sometimes these things come back to bite you.

"I have got nothing but praise for the way that Hearts have carried themselves this season. Theyt have been brilliant.

"Unfortunately, we have been poor and we know that. But we still have a chance to right the wrongs of this season by winning promotion."
