RANGERS FIRST chief Ricki Neill is confident the Light Blue legions will rally to the Ibrox cause as regime change edges closer.

The news that chairman David Somers has quit the club, just days after James Easdale stepped down from the board, has been greeted with significant celebration from supporters.

Derek Llambias and Barry Leach are still clinging to power but board hopefuls Dave King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan are poised to be installed as the new Rangers powerbrokers in the coming days.

RF spokesman Neill said: "This week is probably one of the biggest weeks in the history of Rangers.

"I hope now the two other directors will follow him and get out of Ibrox.

"I think the EGM still needs to ahead. If you still have a chance to vote, I would encourage you to get your vote in.

"If you have proxied your shares over, don't turn up to Ibrox because that will confuse things. But I think it still needs to go ahead.

"We really want to work closely with Dave King, John Gilligan and Paul Murray. They believe in fan involvement and that is really good.

"We have only got six home games left. I would urge fans to get a ticket, join Rangers First and keep the momentum going.

"The fact that they are Rangers fans, I hope to see a lot more transparency from the new board."

It is not just on the terraces where a new lease of life could be breathed into Rangers, with the boardroom change potentially set to have an impact on the park as well.

Kenny McDowall's side are third in the Championship standings but can still win promotion to the top flight via the play-offs this term.

Neill said: "I definitely think there will be a boost. If you are in a job and your boss is torture to work for, it has got to affect your working day. I think next Tuesday you will see a different Rangers team."
