Ally McCoist today called on his shot-shy players to start being far more ruthless in front of goal.

McCoist's side dominated their SPFL Championship showdown with Cowdenbeath at Ibrox on Saturday. However, the League One champions were unable to convert their chances in the final third against their part-time rivals.

The Gers edged in front when Nat Wedderburn deflected a Dean Shiels shot into his own net in the second half. But they failed to add to their lead and endured a few nervous moments towards the end of the 90 minutes.

McCoist is keen for Rangers to starting killing opposition teams off - starting against Queen of the South in a league match at Palmerston Park on Friday.

McCoist said: "Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller, Nicky Clark and Dean Shiels all had chances. We are, without doubt, not being as clinical as we should be as a team. We aren't killing teams off. That is another thing we will be working on."

He added: "But the most important thing against Cowdenbeath was to win the game. We weren't brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, but we got a great reaction. The pleasing thing is that the boys keep attempting to do the right things.

"I just wanted to win the game and bounce back from the defeat to Alloa on Wednesday and get three points and we did that. I'm pleased at the outcome. It's another clean sheet and three points in the pursuit of Hearts.

"Having said that, I would have been happier if we'd scored more goals. That would have meant we could have enjoyed it a bit more in the last 15 or 20 minutes."
