CAMMY BELL is pleased with his progress on the road to recovery, but has yet to set a date for his Rangers return.

The 28-year-old keeper has not played for Ally McCoist's side since going under the knife in September to cure a shoulder problem he first picked up in August.

Steve Simonsen and Lee Robinson have filled in between the sticks during Bell's absence, but the ex-Kilmarnock shot-stopper should be fit to reclaim the gloves for the title run-in.

Bell is continuing to work with the Light Blues' medical staff but is refusing to nail down a comeback date.

He said: "I went to see the surgeon last Friday and he was happy with my progress. I'm working hard with the physio every day.

"I'm getting a lot of treatment from him at the moment and trying to get my shoulder moving because it was serious surgery.

"We are moving along fine. I'm happy with the progress and hopefully I can be back on the pitch as soon as possible.

"We haven't set a date for my return because it wasn't a straightforward injury. We've spoken to the doctor and we know a rough timescale.

"It might be quicker than we think, it might be longer, but it will be the safest time possible for me to get back out on the pitch."

Bell told RangersTV: "It's not nice being out for a long time; I've had it a few times in the past.

"It is mentally tough more than anything; trying to get your head around not being able to play and do something you love for a long time is tough.

"The surgery revealed that there was a bit more damage than expected.

"It was always going to be complicated because of being a goalkeeper, but it's fixed now and we are happy with how it is."
