John MacDonald was the kid thousands of youngsters around the country wanted to be.

When he joined Rangers in 1978, aged 17, he was living the dream.

He would play 230 times for the Light Blues, scoring almost 80 goals en route to winning two League Cups and a Scottish Cup.

MacDonald, now 53, said: "Like most of my friends, I was a big Rangers supporter.

"I can't begin to tell you how proud I was when I signed for Rangers.

"To be able to pull on the light blue jersey was every schoolboy's dream."

Scotland's PFA Player of the Year in 1980, MacDonald added: "I think talent combined with a bit of luck were my credentials to signing for a club like Rangers.

"In saying that, I was lucky enough to score in my first two Old Firm matches, which definitely helped my cause!"

MacDonald says it is vital the lives of Rangers legends are documented for posterity, so younger supporters can learn about the men who shaped the club.

"While I was at Rangers, I was aware of many of the great names from the past, although I'm looking forward to learning more about Davie Meiklejohn through this new book," he says.

"Rangers have had some fantastic players throughout their history and it's great that we are now able to find out just how good they were."
