RANGERS winger David Templeton has vowed to shake off his supersub tag and become a first-team regular.

The talented wideman has struggled to hold down a starting place in Ally McCoist's side in his two years at Ibrox.

He has often been sidelined with injuries, but his form has been erratic when he's been fit and he has been subbed in each of the three league games he's begun this term.

However, the 25-year-old forward has made a massive impact this season when he has come off the bench during games.

Templeton netted a wonder goal in the Light Blues' last outing against Queen of the South two weeks ago only a minute after joining the fray as a half-time replacement for Arnold Peralta.

His superb equaliser helped Rangers stage a fightback and win 4-2.

Now Temps is hoping he has done enough to ensure he'll get a start against Raith Rovers at Stark's Park tonight - then stay in the side.

He said: "My performance against Queen of the South was probably the best I have done in a game so far, so hopefully I will get the nod for the Raith game. Then I can try to impress the gaffer.

"I just feel I need a run in the side. I came in for two games and didn't play at my best, so it was fair enough to go back on the bench. It's a strong squad with lots of competition.

"You can't expect to stay in if you're not doing well. Hopefully I can get myself back in now and stay in there."

The former Hearts star added: "It's frustrating to be branded a supersub. It's not something you want to be known as.

"I suppose it's better than coming on and not making any impact at all. But every player wants to be someone who starts every game and does well.

"Hopefully I can get back in now and make an impact from the start, rather than coming on and doing it."

Templeton was unable to prevent Rangers losing to Raith Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup Final at Easter Road last season.

And he admitted he'd like to win tonight's SPFL Championship game in Fife to bury the memory of that painful defeat.

The Gers ace added: "It was a game we felt we should have won, but we didn't create enough that day and they got the late goal which killed us.

"Hopefully we can pick ourselves up at Kirkcaldy and beat them this time.

"That would ease the pain a little bit."
