RANGERS starlet Robbie Crawford today urged manager Ally McCoist to bring fans' favourite Nacho Novo back to Ibrox.

Novo has revealed he wants to return to his former club after his contract with Spanish club SD Huesca runs out at the end of next month.

The 34-year-old forward, who played for the Light Blues between 2004 and 2010, would be available for free this summer.

McCoist is set to meet with new Rangers chief executive Craig Mather tomorrow to establish what his budget will be for the 2013/14 campaign.

And Crawford reckons Novo would be a great acquisition for the Irn-Bru Third Division champions if they have the funds to bring him in.

Uncertainty continues to surround the stricken Glasgow giants. Major shareholder Charles Green, whose takeover of the club is being investigated, resigned as chief executive nine days ago.

And at the weekend it emerged his commercial director Imran Ahmad, his business partner and close ally, had also left the Ibrox club.

Ahmad's departure follows allegations that he had posted confidential club information on a supporters' website under a pseudonym.

The ongoing boardroom unrest has upset Rangers fans who hoped they had put all their troubles behind them when Green took over last year.

Crawford, who scored the opening goal in the 4-2 win over East Stirling at Ochilview on Saturday, reckons his signing would give them a luge lift.

He said: "I was a quite young when Nacho was at Rangers before so I didn't train or play with him.

"But I saw how much the fans loved him and it was clear how passionate he was about the club.

"He was a great player for Rangers during his time in Scotland and won a lot of trophies.

"He would certainly work hard for the team given his love of the club. It wouldn't be a bad thing for us at all.

"I am sure the Rangers fans would like it if he came back."

Crawford was one of several Murray Park graduates to take to the field against the Shire.

He played along with fellow-kids Luca Gasparotto, Kyle Hutton, Andy Mitchell, Kal Naismith and Daniel Stoney in his team's last away game of the season.

The 20-year-old reckons having an experienced player like Novo would increase their chances of winning the Second Division title and challenging in the cup competitions next season.

He added: There are a lot of young boys in the team and I am sure that bringing in a player of Novo's experience would be beneficial to us.

"We have quite a few experienced players at the moment in Ian Black, Lee McCulloch and Lee Wallace and the like.

"Bringing in another one would help to make us stronger and would complement the young players."

Novo will be in Glasgow next Monday when he will play for a Rangers Legends team in a charity match against Manchester United Legends at Ibrox.

He intends to speak to McCoist about the possibility of a move back to Rangers after playing in a game that will raise money for Unicef and club charities.
