BARRY Hearn made many good points about Scottish football in his address to the inaugural SFA convention this week.

And ditching the booze ban inside grounds was definitely one of them.

The game has moved on in the 34 years since drinking alcohol inside stadiums was made illegal following the 1980 Old Firm Scottish Cup Final

We have all-seated stadiums now. It is easy now for the authorities to identify those responsible for unruly behaviour.

Allowing clubs to sell supporters drink would bring in much-needed revenue.

It is something that we need to seriously look at. It could be done on a trial basis to begin with and then introduced permanently if it is successful.

Hearn also expressed astonishment about the SPFL not having a sponsor.

He is not wrong there either. It is nothing short of a disgrace.

You do wonder what senior officials are doing with their days.
