Chant culprits should get ban

A LOT of people have accused Charles Green of just saying what the fans want to hear since he has taken over at Rangers.

But nobody could accuse him of that when he threatened to ban supporters who sing sectarian songs at the weekend.

The Ibrox club has been fantastic on this issue in recent years and we have come so far from where we once were.

The majority of fans have moved into the 21st century. A small element, though, still seems determined to persist with this nonsense.

The chanting at the Berwick game last month was the worst it has been for a long time. It has to be nipped in the bud.

The individuals responsible have to be identified, prosecuted and banned. Video footage was taken at Shielfield Park. So single out the culprits and take action.

However, I don't go along with Charles's appeal for supporters to shop those sitting or standing around them for indulging in this behaviour.

To do so would be to put yourself at risk. Anyway, you want to concentrate on watching your team when you go to a game. That, for me, is not a goer.

No, there are police and stewards in attendance to deal with these things. I think they may just have to work that bit harder.

The police film people singing these songs and then, a week later, go and arrest them. Pulling them out of the crowd there and then may be the answer. The quicker it stops the better.
