ALLY McCOIST is due every single penny that he gets from Rangers.

As everyone knows, he is being paid while on gardening leave with Dave King stating after taking over as chairman that he was looking for him to do the club "a favour" and reach some kind of settlement.

Ally will want what is best for the club, so there is no doubt in my mind that they may be able to do something by having a few more meetings and some extra dialogue.

There is one thing that must be considered, though. If you were, say, a plumber, and you were being paid for another year under the terms of the contract you had signed, would you say: 'Ach, I love the company too much for this. I am just going to turn my back on it all?'

Of course you wouldn't.

Ally was the man who brought £22million into the club through a share issue at the end of 2012.

It wasn't Charles Green, the former chief executive. He took Ally with him and Ally was the person that potential investors were relating to and talking with.

Of course, supporters may not have been particularly happy with the way he managed the team, but that man is entitled to everything he gets because of the job he did for Rangers over six or seven years.

Ally is a friend of mine and I might be a wee bit biased, but he is the greatest goalscorer the club has ever had and was magnificent for that club for 15 years.

He is a Rangers man through and through, and it saddens me to hear him being rubbished by people and branded greedy.

It is undeserved. He worked his socks off and took a lot of stick. He stepped up when Rangers went into administration and was absolutely everything for the club from manager to PR man.

He is still one of the greatest-ever Rangers men ... and that will never change.
