INJURIES are piling up for Ally McCoist and Rangers now with Kyle Hutton breaking a leg in an Under-20 match this week.

As well as poor Kyle, who will be out of action for several months, first-team players Andy Little and Ricky Foster are sidelined.

The growing casualty list will certainly impact on the Ibrox club's attempt to record a "Perfect Season" in SPFL League One.

And strengthening in the January window would increase their chances of prolonging their run - if, that is, they have still not drawn or lost a game by then.

I think every manager, no matter what club he is at, wants to bring in new players to strengthen his squad in the transfer window.

Ally will be no different. I know he would like to add another striker to his squad.

But I would be very surprised if he is allowed to bring anybody in with the squad he has got.

You have to look at the overall situation Rangers are in here.

There is going to be an AGM on December 19. Whoever gets into power next month - the existing board or the nominees - is going to have to sort out the finances of the Ibrox club.

Somebody has to take control of the situation. More money has to be brought into the club from fresh investors as a matter of urgency.

Far too much cash is being spent in wages as things stand. There have been extensive cutbacks at the club. January is not, then, the right time to bring in new players.

Rangers are already far ahead in the league. They are going to win it comfortably. They are strong enough to do that with the players that they have.

Spending money to increase the club's chances of achieving a "Perfect Season" would be foolish if it was to the detriment of their financial predicament.

Yes, there is a chance to go through the entire league campaign without dropping a point for only the second time in the club's history.

If the club goes 18, 19 or 20 games without drawing or losing a game then the sense of anticipation will increase among fans.

It will be wonderful if it happens. But winning the title and promotion is what is really important here.

I do not think a "Perfect Season", nice though it would be, will be a huge priority for those who hold the purse strings.

I imagine Ally will be encouraged to keep looking at players -but with a view to bringing them in during the summer in preparation for the move up to a higher league.

ANYWAY, I still think that, despite the injury problems Ally has got, the squad is strong enough to keep this run going. He has got the quality that he needs.

If a player becomes available for free who will strengthen the side in an important area then we may see him brought in. But I think the next recruitment drive will be carried out in the summer.

Fraser Aird showed against Arbroath on Monday night that the young lads can fill in for first-team players who areinjured or suspended in the weeks ahead.

Fraser got a fair few chances in the first team last season, but he was always going to feature less when more experienced players arrived at the club in the summer.

By all accounts, he is a real grafter in training. He has been rewarded for his hard work with a recall to the side.

He is blessed with an abundance of pace and that is a real asset to the manager and to Rangers.

I think his inexperience shows at times. He has a tendency to do too much, to hold on to the ball too long.

But he did well at Gayfield on his first start of the season and deserves a run.

He certainly tracked back well and helped out Sebastien Faure at right-back.

For me, the big problem Rangers have at the moment is that they are far too left sided, although Lee Wallace and Lewis Macleod have done brilliantly on that side of the park.

But Rangers need to balance it out on the other side of the pitch. Somebody like Fraser Aird can do that.

Fraser and his contemporaries at Murray Park will certainly show tremendous desire and hunger when they come into the team and that is no bad thing at all.
