I WAS so sorry to hear last night that Arthur Montford had passed away.

Arthur was a giant of broadcasting and someone, along with Archie Macpherson, that I grew up listening to.

I remember his commentary from when Scotland played Wales before we went to Argentina for the World Cup.

I will always remember when Kenny Dalglish scored 'Argentina, here we come!'

He was on the Rangers bus when we were coming back from Barcelona in '72.

He said to Colin Stein 'which one of your two goals was the best?' and Steiny said to him 'I don't know what game you were watching Arthur, I only scored one!'

Everyone on the bus had a good laugh. I have seen Arthur a few times while he was watching his beloved Morton and it is so sad to hear that he has died.

He was one of the gentlemen of Scottish football. He was the voice of our game for so long and was someone who was so associated with our game. He will be sadly missed.

He was still a regular at Morton and I am sure he will be missed at Cappielow.

I think Scottish football should do something to commemorate him, perhaps a minute's silence this weekend.

He is someone who deserves that. When you talk about him to anybody of my generation, everyone knows Arthur Montford so he certainly deserves recognition.

A minute's silence around the grounds would be a fitting tribute.

My thoughts are with his family and friends at this desperately sad time.
