IT is good to talk.

And I hope, sooner rather than later, there is a serious conversation between Dave King and Mike Ashley.

Dave returned to Scotland this week to hold discussions with Graham Wallace and David Somers, alongside George Letham, and put a multi-million pound offer on the table.

It is now up to the board to decide if they take it or leave it.

The good thing as far as Rangers are concerned is that there are people looking to put money into the club.

That hasn't always been the case in the last couple of years.

Dave and Ashley both have their investment ideas and that has got to be a plus for the fans.

There has been a lot of doom and gloom among the supporters, and rightly so given everything that has happened to Rangers.

But when you see Dave flying in and meeting the board, that has to raise their spirits.

We don't know if Dave's plans will be successful yet and Ashley will almost certainly have his say as well.

I would hope that we could get King and Ashley locked in a room and they can sort it out.

Ashley is there to make money, that is what he does and he does it very well.

But surely he can make more money with Dave King involved at Rangers?

For him to maximise his chances of selling shirts and getting the best coverage for his brand, Rangers need to be playing and competing at the highest level.

That is the level Dave King wants Rangers to be at. He is there for the long haul, as is Letham, Paul Murray, and the other like-minded individuals backing this £16million rescue package.

That could be the best of both worlds, to have King and Ashley involved, and perhaps the best the fans can hope for just now.

I know it is easy to say to get the two of them together, but it makes sense.

If we can get Dave and Mike together to work things out between them, I think that is the best way forward.

The positive just now is that things are happening and the wheels are in motion.

The AGM will be crucial, but no date has yet been set for it and the accounts still haven't been signed off.

We have said that it looks as if things are coming to a head before and it has been a false dawn for Rangers and the fans.

There are no certainties in this, but I would hope we are starting out towards a positive outcome for Rangers now.

For me, King and Ashley have to come together and work out a deal that suits all parties to bring an end to this uncertainty.

Rangers can't continue like this and the fans deserve answers and a plan for the future of their club.

On the field, we need investment for, hopefully, a return to the Premiership next season.

I know people will say that the egos of both men are too strong and that they could never work together, but if they have plans to plot a new future for Rangers, surely, between the two of them, they can come to an agreement.

Ashley, of course, has his motivation for being involved with Rangers while Dave just wants to see his club back where it belongs, as do Paul and George.

It is all ifs, buts and maybes just now, but I think it is an exciting time for Rangers and hopefully there will be good news for the fans sooner rather than later.

We have known for a while that there is an obvious split on the board. Sandy and James Easdale are backing Mike Ashley and are keen for him to be involved while Graham and financial consultant Philip Nash are favouring Dave King.

But we need a consensus and it has to be the right one for the club, not for the board or any individual. It is not just the fans who would be pleased and relieved if this was all sorted out.

I think the players would get a huge lift from knowing that the club is secure and the money is there for investment, as would the manager.

That might just spur the team on even more between now and the end of the Championship campaign.

The light at the end of the tunnel is not that bright at the moment, but I am hopeful it will shine in the not too distant future.
