FAN involvement in the running of Rangers has always been easier said than done but we now have two groups - the Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers First - that are making a real impact at Ibrox.

The fans have had to suffer a lot during the last few years but they are now playing their part, putting their money in and are making their voice heard.

It hit home to them that they were going to have to do something and they have been magnificent, with thousands of members signing up and hundreds of thousands of shares being bought.

They have backed their club all the way and the passion and commitment of the fans is one of the reasons why Dave King et al are so keen to get involved.

They know the fans will work with them, support them and help make Rangers successful again.

The Trust, through their BuyRangers scheme, and Rangers First have bought significant shareholdings in recent months and have also been gathering proxies ahead of the EGM next Friday at Ibrox.

It has been a massive effort and everyone involved deserves a lot of credit. I think their endeavours should, and will be, rewarded.

If the EGM goes how everyone thinks it will do a week tomorrow, I would like to see a fan representative join Dave, Paul Murray and John Gilligan on the board.

To have thousands of supporters buying into these schemes is magnificent and I think they should be rewarded. The fans will be at the heart of their club going forward.

I think we will see a supporter get on the board at some point, and rightly so.

There are a lot of Rangers fans that have stayed away this season for a number of reasons. It was a matter of principle, they didn't want to give this board their money.

If there is regime change next week, the one thing you can count one is that tens of thousands of supporters will come back to Ibrox and will re-engage with the club.

At the first home game after the EGM - against Queen of the South on Tuesday, March 10 - I think there will be a huge crowd if change happens next Friday.

When people see that the fans are willing to back the club in such huge numbers, they will be more willing to put their money in.

The fans have a reason to be more optimistic but you can never count your chickens where Rangers are concerned. You don't know what the board are planning, or what Mike Ashley will do next.

The vote won't take that long but it will be such an important event for Rangers. It could be the start of a new era for the club.

When the votes are counted, it could prove to be the case that the shares owned by the fans are the ones that have pushed things over the line and won it for the Requisitioners.

After all the supporters have been through in recent years, that would be very fitting.

Rangers have been knocked from pillar to post by everyone in the game, by clubs, by supporters and everything has been negative. I have hardly read a positive story about Rangers and fans, like me, are sick of it.

Rangers are coming back and we will look after ourselves, not Scottish football. We need to focus on number one - Rangers Football Club.

Should Dave, Paul and John get in, we know they will do what is best for the club. They will take Rangers forward.

If they are successful, we will have strong people and excellent businessmen leading the club forward and the fans will go along with them.

This is what the supporters have wanted all along. The last four years have been wasted but hopefully, when the votes are counted a week on Friday, it will be the start of another journey for Rangers.

We know that Rangers will need money going forward, and plenty of it to sort out the problems across the club and get us back to where we should be.

If it goes well for Dave, Paul and John a week tomorrow, the hard work will only just be starting.

It is not as simple as getting these guys in and all of Rangers' problems will be solved, far from it.

There is a lot of work to be done, people to be spoken to and money to be found.

When it is Rangers' men that are involved, it will be easier for them to attract investment, and investment from people who care about the club and want what is best for it.

The outlook does appear more promising for supporters after events of the last couple of days but they still won't be taking anything for granted.

There is no doubt we are approaching a defining few days for Rangers, though.
