KENNY MCDOWALL is working in a very difficult situation at Rangers at the moment.

If you ask yourself the question 'does he want to be there?', you would probably say the answer is no. He has handed in his notice and he wants to go.

But, are the board in a position to write him a cheque and say 'go now'? I don't think they are.

So Kenny is just going to have to work away for now, or at least until we have had the EGM next month. He just has to get on with it.

If, after the shareholders have voted and Dave King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan are in control, will they keep Kenny on? Only time will tell.

The players are at an all time low, the club is at an all time low. Things are not going well for anyone and you can see that in Kenny's face.

He has been there for a long time and I doubt he would ever have expected he would be the manager of Rangers. He was happy being a coach and all of a sudden he is left in the middle of this situation. You can see the club is not a happy place to be.

We have seen directors and executives walk away with thousands of pounds, hundreds of thousands in some cases, because they signed contracts.

Kenny signed a contract. He is not a fly by night who has only been there for five minutes. He has been there for years and deserves everything he gets because he has worked for it.

The board are between a rock and a hard place. They probably don't have the money to pay Kenny off.

But, if they do, who then do they bring in? If, in a few weeks, the board are ousted, will the new board be happy with any new manager that has been brought in?

It is a very delicate situation at the club just now and the cup exit to Raith Rovers last weekend certainly didn't help.

I don't think Kenny should have been the one that apologised to the fans after the 2-1 defeat at Ibrox on Sunday. I never heard one of the players apologise for the performance.

Raith were quicker, sharper, more solid in defence and Rangers' frailties at the back were exposed again.

This situation can't go on and the EGM can't come quick enough for a lot of people so we can start looking longer term again.

The fans are at the end of their tether and the players really haven't come to the fore for them.

The one thing Rangers teams have always had in the past, even when they have not been the best football side, is desire. They have ran, tackled and given their all and that doesn't seem to be happening these days.

They give the ball away so easily, they miss chances and they lose really soft goals. Everything that is bad about football, Rangers are doing it just now.

You have to feel for Kenny. He is saying the same things about how it was a bad result, how they apologise and how they need to carry on doing their work.

But I don't think he has the players to change it and make things better.

I think the majority of them know that they are not going to be there next season and they are resigned to that fact. But they are not showing what they can do and enticing other teams to come and pick them up.

They need to start getting results because it is imperative that Rangers are in the play-offs this season.

I know there are some fans that are saying promotion wouldn't do us any good this season because we wouldn't have a squad that could compete in the Premiership. I would agree with that.

If you go up and need to bring in virtually a new squad, they could really struggle in the Premiership.

All the fans are asking for is a few good performances and results to make sure we keep that second place.

We have got a couple of games in hand but we have still got to win them and they won't be easy games. We need to show some sort of form.

Hibernian have battered us twice already this season and even in the cup game at the start of the season, it wasn't until they got a man sent off that we got the better of them.

If we are not up for it tomorrow night, because you can bet your boots that they will be and they will have a right go, then we will really struggle.

Rangers' form over the last few weeks has not been good but Kenny and the players need to pick themselves up and start winning games again for the supporters, and themselves.
