PAUL MURRAY set out his vision for Rangers last week and vowed the club will return to the 'very top' by 2022 - our 150th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the European Cup Winners' Cup win in Barcelona.

We know that the new board at Ibrox have a huge job on their hands to rebuild the club after what has gone on in recent years but the right men are at the helm and Rangers are back on the right track.

The news that Rangers International Football Club plc has been delisted from the AIM market yesterday just shows how difficult a task it is.

There is, of course, a long, long way to go before we are back where we were but I would like to think that it would happen within the seven year timescale that Paul put on it.

The board have given themselves a reasonable time to get the club back to where it should be. We are all hoping that it will be quicker than that.

It depends on a lot of things, though. Once the club is secured financially, we will need investment and, of course, the squad needs strengthened.

It won't be case of going out next season and getting 15 players, it has to be the right players that come in.

It could take a couple of windows to get the squad right. Before that can be done, we need to know who the manager, or the coach, will be.

Hopefully that will be Stuart McCall with the way he is going. We have got to get it right.

Of course, we want to be in the Premiership next season but we don't want to go up and finish eighth or ninth because we haven't done things properly.

If we go up, it has to be for the benefit of Rangers, nobody else. Other clubs will benefit from the fans we take to their grounds and there will be a benefit to the Premiership of having Rangers back in the league.

Nobody thought about us when we were in the Third Division. Now they want us back for the money.

Rangers have to look after number one and that is us. When we do get back to where we were before, Scottish football will benefit. There is no doubt about that.

But we will take our time, make sure we are on a solid footing and we will get back to where we belong.

If it is going to take five years, or seven years, then so be it. Hopefully it happens sooner than that, though.

The coming weeks are obviously very significant for Rangers as we look to win promotion.

If we are back in the Premiership next season, the financial picture will improve and it will be another step in the right direction.

If you look at the performances against the teams in the Premiership this season, Celtic aside, we played really well and didn't look out of place.

We have held our own with a team that we didn't think was very good at the time. The team has shown a bit more potential in the last couple of games thanks to the manager.

We have proved we can compete against the likes of Inverness and St Johnstone already but we will need a stronger squad to compete with Celtic over the course of a season.

We are still a bit off competing for the title at the moment but we can more than hold our own next season, if we go up.

Stuart has shown he has got an eye for a player and he has good contacts in the game.

If he gets the job and can rebuild how he wants, there is no reason why we can't compete in the top six next season.

It will take three or four windows to get the players capable of winning the Premiership and it is four or five years before you can think about competing in Europe.

Hopefully it won't take the length of time Paul stated last week but the board have given themselves something to aim at and if we can get back to where we were before that then great.

No matter how long it takes, the one thing the club will need is the fans to be back on board.

The supporters are delighted there has been regime change at Ibrox but we all need to be patient. There is no magic fix here.

I can't believe there are some people already questioning the board and saying 'we are not getting much transparency from them' and 'they have been there for a month now, what is happening?' Give them a chance for goodness sake.

These are the right guys for Rangers, but you need to give them a chance to get their backsides on the seats before you start giving them stick.

The rebuilding job at Rangers is huge and everything from the last couple of years has to be looked at. The fans need to be cool and patient just now and by working together Rangers will be back at the very top sooner rather than later.
