I SAID last week that Celtic were the better side and the only way Rangers would get anything from the game yesterday was if we all played well and they had an off-day; that wasn't the case.

It was so disappointing, the first half especially. We barely created a chance, we wasted opportunities from corners and free-kicks and never made Craig Gordon work.

Celtic got their goals so easily.

How can you let Leigh Griffiths score a header from inside the six-yard area?

What was going on for the second goal? It was completely unacceptable.

The second half, probably after the players had had a rollicking from Kenny McDowall, they came out and fought a bit harder but, by that time, Celtic had taken their foot off the gas.

They had the two-goal cushion, they didn't have to come at us and leave themselves open to conceding and giving Rangers a way back into the game.

There was never any chance of that happening, not when you are as poor in the final third as we were. It was very disappointing overall.

In the first half we had nothing. No passion, no composure, no quality. We were totally second best.

I was brought up playing for one of the hardest managers Rangers have ever had in Jock Wallace. He wouldn't have accepted what we saw yesterday. No chance.

You have to say that you have fought with all your heart, you gave everything and you have a bit of pride in playing for Rangers.

I said last week that you need something special when you pull that Rangers shirt on, you need a big heart below it.

I am not sure that these players have it. That wasn't a Rangers side that played at Hampden. They lay down far too easily and were far from good enough.

When Jon Daly came on, we saw more of the ball and were a bit better, but still did nothing and we got what we deserved.

There was a big Rangers support there and they wanted to see a bit of fight, a bit of heart and the players getting in to them. It never happened.

It shows how big a gap there is between the teams at the moment. We are so far away from them it is not true just now.

Whoever is in control of the club after the next few weeks, there will have to be some serious money spent on this team to allow us to compete when we get up to the Premiership.

The gulf didn't surprise me. Celtic have better quality players and Rangers had to be at their very best to have a chance, but we lacked that bit of quality, class and pace. It was very disappointing.

Celtic were on a different level from Rangers. We feared that would be the case before the game and the 90 minutes we saw certainly proved it.

There is an awful lot of work to be done before we can get anywhere near challenging them when we do get back to the Premiership.
