Fernando is a genuinely good lad who loves a laugh. I was saddened, then, to hear this week that he has motor neurone disease.
He was a wild one during his time in Glasgow. Everyone knows all about his off-field antics.
But as a player he always gave his all. He gave everything he had whenever he donned the Light Blue jersey.
Football supporters like individuals of that nature and Rangers fans certainly took Ricksen to their hearts. It is heartbreaking to hear he has this horrible disease.
I was also shocked and saddened to hear of the death of my former Rangers team-mate David MacFarlane, who has passed away aged 46, this week.
I was at Ibrox at the same time as Davie in the 1980s. He was a lovely boy.
Davie knew he was never going to make it at Rangers. But he enjoyed every minute of his time at Ibrox.
As Ally McCoist said this week, he has been taken from us far too young.
