KRIS BOYD'S failure to make an impression at Rangers second time around has been the subject of much discussion with too many people blaming it on the other players failing to create chances for him.

He had plenty of scoring opportunities over the course of the season just gone. He simply didn't put them away.

You saw it again on Sunday, when he was brought back into the starting line-up for the second leg of the Play-Off final with Motherwell. He had a great chance to score with a header from six yards and put it straight at the keeper.

That has happened a lot of times. He has been hitting the target, but hitting it straight at the goalie.

I don't know if the pressure got to him. I wouldn't have thought so, because he is not a young kid. He had been at the club and knew what to expect.

He had also just come off a season in which he had kept Kilmarnock in the Premiership thanks to scoring 22 goals. It just hasn't happened for him.

I don't see any of those 11 players or so that were out of contract being offered anything. They haven't warranted any kind of offer.

They might have played relatively well in some of the play-off matches, but where have they been for the last two years? They simply have not performed. The jersey has been too heavy for them.

Some of those with time left to run on their deals might be under pressure too.

Has anyone heard of David Templeton recently, for example? Has he gone abroad to play?

Whoever takes over as manager, he is going to have to start from scratch. He needs to be given time and funds to build an entirely new team.

Everyone knows that we are not going to see £3m signings, particularly not with the club facing another season in the Championship, but they are going to have to find at least one or two exceptional players to excite the supporters.

The fans were great in the Play-Off games, but that is maybe because the tickets only cost a fiver.

If the right players are brought in, though, I am sure the fans will come back and support the team because the club is nothing without them.
