IT was no great surprise when Lee Wallace scooped both the Rangers Player and the Players' Player of the year awards at the weekend.

I was fortunate enough to be at the Rangers Player of the Year Awards dinner in Glasgow on Sunday night.

And it would have been a shock if the left-back, who was recalled to the Scotland squad this season, had not scooped both gongs.

Lee has been so consistent for Ally McCoist's side in all competitions. He has made his presence felt in both attack and defence.

There was also no shock when Fraser Aird scooped the Young Player of the year award.

He has done extremely well since forcing his way into the first team midway through the 2013/14 campaign.

Fraser has added pace and penetration to his team's play and has chipped in with a fair few goals as well.

The fact that Lewis Macleod, who won Young Player last season, was sidelined with a virus probably resulted in him just edging it.

But there was good news at the dinner when Andy Cameron, our compere for the evening, announced that Lewis had been given the all clear.

It must have been extremely worrying for him to be suffering from an illness without knowing exactly what it was.

Especially when it emerged that it was affecting the muscles around his heart.

But I have no doubt that he will be back as good as ever next season.
