THE storm which has erupted since Rangers caretaker manager Kenny McDowall was told that he had to select the Newcastle United loan players is nothing to do with the lads themselves.

I would hope that Gers supporters will give them a warm welcome in the William Hill Scottish Cup match with Raith Rovers on Sunday afternoon - and I am sure that they will do.

The row that has blown up is not of their making.

They know Rangers is a big club and all seem to be genuinely excited to be here in Glasgow.

They have been playing in their reserve team on a Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock in front of two men and a dog.

All of a sudden, they are going to come to a club where, away from home at least, there are full houses.

They are going to be playing in front of decent crowds between now and the end of the season.

That is going to lift them and inspire them to do well. That is why they wanted to come here.

There is no doubt Newcastle, too, will be sending people to watch them whenever they play for the club. This is an excellent chance for them to show what they are capable of.

There is no way on this earth that they would have expected to play. I am sure that they will have understood that they have to earn the right to play.

You have got to show the manager and coaching staff you are good enough to get in the team. That is what all players will do. These kids have been put in a position because of others.

Nobody should hold anything against them. They are not responsible for what has happened.
