I WAS interested to see that Karl Robinson of MK Dons had been linked with Rangers.

Robinson has, despite being just 34, done a fantastic job with the Dons and has taken them up into the Sky Bet Championship for the first time.

He is highly rated in managerial circles down in England due to his work with the youth set-up and scouting system at his club and is being tipped to go far.

Good on the guy. He has moved into coaching at a very young age and has made a great success of it. We are seeing more instances of that in the game now.

However, there is a difference between doing well with MK Dons and doing well with Rangers. It is a far harder job. Would he have been ready for it? I doubt it.

Anyway, I would feel sorry for Stuart McCall if somebody else was to get the job given what he has done since he came in back in March.

If he manages to take them up - and it is still a big if given the games they would have to play - then I can't see anybody else getting the job.

What the club are doing by looking at candidates like Robinson is keeping their options open and exploring all possibilities.

But I don't think they can wait until the summer to make an appointment because a lot of players will be leaving at the end of the season and new ones need to be brought in.

I thought the performance against Queen of the South last Saturday showed what a good manager Stuart is.

He stressed his team wouldn't approach a game at Palmerston Park the same way again after they lost there last month.

He was true to his word. He played three centre-backs and two full-backs, as he had done against Hibs, and blocked out Queen of the South.

It worked. The home team didn't create many clear-cut chances. The visitors, meanwhile, took their chances and scored a couple.

Going into the second leg with a 2-1 lead is all you could ask for. If Rangers can't beat Queen of the South at Ibrox they don't deserve to be anywhere near the SPFL Premiership.
