ALLY McCoist lost in his second last game in charge of Rangers to Queen of the South at Palmerston Park back in December.

The scoreline finished 2-0. But his team got a doing that night. There was nothing lucky about the final result.

Stuart McCall took his team to Dumfries last month - and ended up being on the receiving end of an even heavier 3-0 loss.

In the second game the Gers probably had the majority of possession and they still got cuffed. They got punished on the break.

Stuart admitted after the game that his side had enough of the ball and failed to do enough with it. I think he will take a different approach to this game.

He will know that this is a 180 minute game, not a 90 minute game. There will be no gung-ho attitude from the visitors.

James Fowler's side is deadly on the artificial pitch. They have beaten the vast majority of sides they have played down there in the league.

So Rangers will go into it differently. Who knows? They may approach the game the same way their opponents do by putting everyone behind the ball and hitting them on the break.

I think if you offered Stuart a 0-0 today he would grab it. Most of the supporters would do that as well having seen their team heavily beaten in their last two outings at Palmerston.

And, by the way, I don't want to hear anybody at Rangers moaning about the pitch before or after the game is played.

There are two teams on the park at the end of the day and they have as good a chance as their opponents of winning.

To do well on these hard surfaces you have to pass the ball well and control the ball well. If Rangers do that they will get the result they want.

Yes, Queen of the South play on it far more regularly than their rivals. But Rangers have better quality players.

So if the visitors play to the best of their capabilities and take their chances when they come they should win the game.

I don't want to hear any excuses about plastic pitches from anybody.
