Our writers have been counting down the 50 players from both sides they reckon deserve to be called Rangers and Celtic legends.

And we've been inundated with comments from supporters reaching across the city's footballing divide keen to have their say on which stars should be immortalised in the Old Firm hall of fame.

It's day four of our poll and puts the case for another batch of players to have graced the light blue of Rangers.

35 RONNIE McKINNON

The Rangers years: 1960-1973.

Appearances: 473.

Show us your medals: Two League titles; four Scottish Cups; three League Cups.

Career highlight: Helping Scotland beat world champions England 3-2 at Wembley in 1967.

So what makes you a legend? Ronnie McKinnon was a member of the legendary Rangers team of the early 1960s and won every honour in the Scottish game.

He formed a famous half-back line – arguably the best in the entire history of the Ibrox club – with John Greig and Jim Baxter.

The Glasgow man also played 28 times for Scotland and was involved in some famous results. The wins over Italy at Hampden and England at Wembley are still remembered.

In a 1-1 draw with Brazil at Hampden in 1966, too, he effectively nullified the threat posed by Pele.

But he was denied a place in the team that won the 1972 European Cup-Winners' Cup after breaking a leg in the second-round match against Sporting Lisbon. It was his last game for the Gers.

He moved to South Africa and played for Durban United. He now lives on the Isle of Lewis.

34 ALEX MacDONALD

The rangers years: 1968-1980.

Appearances: 503.

Career highlight: Scoring the winner against Celtic in the 1975 League Cup Final.

So what makes you a legend? Alex MacDonald lived the dream. Born and brought up in Kinning Park, just along the road from Ibrox, his boyhood ambition was to play for his beloved Rangers.

MacDonald took time to settle after signing from St Johnstone for £50,000 in 1968. But when he did; he proved himself to be a combative, energetic and box-to-box midfielder.

After helping Rangers win the European Cup-Winners' Cup, he helped Jock Wallace's team end Celtic's dominance of Scottish football. He was an integral part of the success they enjoyed in the mid to late-1970s.

He moved to Hearts in 1980 and became player/manager. His team narrowly failed to win the Scottish title after losing to Dundee on the final day of the 1984/85 season.

Doddie, as he was known, went on to manage Airdrieonians with some success for several seasons.

33 TOMMY McLEAN

The Rangers years: 1971-1982.

Appearances: 452.

Career highlight: Winning the League title with Kilmarnock aged 17 in 1965.

So what makes you a legend? Tommy McLean broke into the Kilmarnock team managed by Willie Waddell aged just 16 in 1965 and helped them win the title.

He was soon offered the chance to move to London giants Chelsea. But after Waddell took over at Rangers he signed the diminutive winger for £65,000 in 1971.

He was a key player in the team that won the European Cup- Winners' Cup in his first season. His crosses into the box set up numerous goals for his team's front players.

McLean played for 11 years and won the domestic treble twice. The younger brother of Dundee United manager Jim, when he hung up his boots he become assistant to John Greig.

In later years, he was a youth coach at the Light Blues.

32 COLIN STEIN

The Rangers years: 1968-1972 and 1975-1978.

Appearances: 206.

Career highlight: Opening the scoring in the European Cup- Winners' Cup final in 1972.

So what makes you a legend? Colin Stein wrote his name into Rangers folklore when he netted the first goal against Moscow Dynamo in the European Cup-Winners' Cup final at the Nou Camp in 1972.

A record £100,000 signing from Hibs in 1968, he banged in a hat-trick on his debut against Arbroath then repeated the trick against his old side the following week.

He played in all nine matches of the Glasgow club's successful European campaign in 1971/72 and scored five goals in total.

After a three-season spell in England with Coventry City he returned to Rangers in 1975 and helped them win their first Scottish title in 11 years. He netted the winner in the clinching victory over Hibs.

However, having only come back to Scotland the previous month he did not merit a medal. He retired aged just 30 after a final spell with Kilmarnock.

31 SAM ENGLISH

The Rangers years: 1931-1933.

Appearances: 72.

Show us your medals: One League title; one Scottish Cup.

Career highlights: Scoring a record 44 league goals in a single season.

So what makes you a legend? Sam English was only a player at Ibrox for two years. And the Northern Ireland internationalist only won two trophies in that time.

But he will forever be remembered at Ibrox due to the astonishing record that he set which stands to this day. In the 1931/32 season, he scored 44 league goals. That haul included six hat-tricks.

The Coleraine man was involved in the tragic death of the Celtic goalkeeper John Thomson in an Old Firm match at Ibrox that same season.

Despite being blameless for the accident – a fact acknowledged by the Thomson family – English was haunted by the player's passing. He moved to Liverpool at the end of the following season.

The Sam English Bowl is now presented to the leading Rangers scorer every season.
