RICHARD Foster has taken his fair share of stick off Rangers fans for one reason or another since returning to the Ibrox club two years ago.

He revealed after the game on Wednesday night that a so-called Gers supporter had a go at him when he was out with his girlfriend seeing Al Pacino at The Armadillo in Glasgow this week.

But do you know what? I think Richard has been an absolute star since returning to action from a lengthy injury lay-off against Hearts earlier this month.

He isn't as tired as many of his team mates because he has missed three months of the season due to his hernia.

I think the right back has looked really good since returning. He did well to tee up Nicky Clark for the opening goal. As his manager pointed out, it was his fourth assist since making his comeback.

I actually go so far as to say he was the Man of the Match in the first leg of the play-off semi-final against Hibs.

I am sure that, having been subjected to some abuse when he was out socially, he found having such a good game really sweet. He is right to revel in that.

The best way to silence your critics is by going out, doing your talking with your feet and showing you're a good player. Nobody had any cause to abuse him on Wednesday night.

Having Foster available for selection and playing so well is a bonus for Rangers because several players have slotted into that position in the 2014/15 campaign - with varying degrees of success.

The 29-year-old has got experience and pace and is sticking two fingers up to those who doubted him. That shows tremendous character. The guy has got bottle to do that at a club like Rangers.

The guy who had a dig at him should have a real look at himself. At this stage of the season and with so much at stake, the players need the fans' backing, not snide remarks and criticism.

The Gers fans have been magnificent at urging the team on in the last three games. They have really got behind them. It has made a difference.

It is really important the crowd continues to support them. The players want exactly the same thing the fans want - to be up there with the big boys next season.

It will help Rangers if everybody, the manager, the players and the coaching staff, is challenging their energy in the same direction.
