WHEN Rangers experienced their serious financial difficulties back in 2012, many of the first-team players jumped ship.
I can appreciate that a lot of them, internationalists in many cases, didn't want to play in the Third Division of Scottish football.
They wanted to continue playing at the top level and so moved down to England and, in some instances, abroad.
You can't blame them for that. I get it.
You can also understand if some of them didn't like the way the club was going.
Legally, they were entitled, despite what they were told at the time, to move on to different clubs.
But I don't think any of them will return to Ibrox in the future - because I don't think Rangers fans would accept them. Steven Davis, Steven Naismith and Kyle Lafferty spoke about the possibility of one day re-signing for the Glasgow giants in the build-up to the Scotland v Northern Ireland friendly this week.
I can't speak for every Gers supporter, but I think many still feel aggrieved at being left in the lurch by many of the big stars.
These were players who kissed the badge when they played and spoke openly about how much they loved the Ibrox club.
The minute Rangers needed them, though, they left. The fans will remember how they didn't stay in their greatest hour of need.
Meanwhile, I don't think the 1-0 win over Northern Ireland told Gordon Strachan much about his Scotland team ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifier with Gibraltar on Sunday.
The national team possibly need to be more clinical going forward than they were on Wednesday night. But it will be a completely different game.
