FERNANDO Ricksen is a hero to a lot of Rangers fans.

He is idolised by those who grew up watched him play in what was a good era for the Ibrox club.

And the former Dutch internationalist kept in touch with the club and came back to Glasgow regularly after he had left.

It is desperately sad that such a fit young man has been struck down with Motor Neurone Disease in the prime of life.

But the Rangers family always look after its own - hence the reason the club is holding a benefit match for him at Ibrox a week on Sunday.

And I think supporters will enjoy seeing a lot of the great names who are turning up to support the game.

It will be a joy to watch the likes of Jorg Albertz, Michael Mols, Rino Gattuso, Ronald De Boer and others play for the Light Blues again.

And it has always been worth seeing the likes of Teddy Sheringham, Matt Le Tissier and Darren Anderton in action.

I will be commentating on the game for Rangers TV with Tom Miller and both of us are doing it for free.

Hopefully lots of fans turn up to pay tribute to Fernando and raise a lot of money.

The money is being split between Fernando, his daughter Isabella, Motor Neurone Disease Scotland and the Rangers Charity Foundation.

Tickets are on public sale and cost £12 for adults, £8 for concessions and £5 for children from the Rangers Ticket Centre, via the Hotline on 0871 702 1972 (Option 1) and www.rangers.co.uk,
