Strachan is right to lean on Lee for Scotland

GORDON Strachan made a good start to his tenure as Scotland manager by selecting Rangers left-back Lee Wallace.

Wallace has been excellent this season and merits his call-up to the national squad for the friendly with Estonia at Pittodrie next week.

His surges up the park for Ally McCoist's team have been difficult for rival teams to cope with this campaign. He has set up a lot of goals for the Gers.

But he has, crucially, also defended well. On top of that, his attitude has been first class.

In fact, he has looked like exactly what he is – an SPL player operating in the Third Division. He deserves his chance at international level and I'm glad Gordon his offered him that.

And not just in this friendly either. I would hope he will be involved in the World Cup qualifiers with Wales and Serbia when they come round next month.

Craig Levein stated it would be hard for him to select Rangers players when they were in the fourth tier.

But, for me, Lee is the best left-back that Gordon has available to him.

He has played international football in the past and is a proven performer for Scotland. Picking him would not be a gamble.
