He was rough and ready. But he got the job done. "You have to be more than a coach to be Rangers manager and he definitely was.
"He was a psychologist as well. He knew when to put an arm around a player's shoulder and when to kick them up the backside.
"He was a fitness fanatic as well. We all enjoyed his training and won so many games in the last 10 minutes.
"He was a massive influence on my own career."
