THE Scottish Football Association could hold face-to-face talks with Rangers and Mike Ashley as they await a response from both parties over the businessman's Ibrox influence.

The Hampden hierarchy have written to the Newcastle United owner and the club asking for more detail about his involvement and plans after increasing his boardroom power last month.

Ashley has signed an undertaking pledging not to have an influence in the running of the Gers and limiting him to owning 10 per cent of the shares in RIFC plc.

SFA president Campbell Ogilvie said: "We've written to the club itself and to Mike Ashley looking for clarification.

"We're waiting for replies to that and we'll take it from there.

"We need more information at this stage.

"There could be a meeting. We wrote to them at the end of last week and we're waiting for a reply.

"That could lead to a meeting between the SFA and the club - and, indeed, Mike Ashley and his advisors.

"That would be the next step. Then we'll take it from there. But we really need more information.

"Fundamentally, the undertaking was not to go above the 10 per cent shareholding - and not to have influence in the running of the club.

"On the back of the movement last week, we've written asking for more information. Until we get that information, we can't comment further."

Ogilvie was speaking as he helped conduct the draw for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup that saw the Old Firm kept apart just days after they were paired in the League Cup semi-finals.

Rangers and Celtic will meet for the first time since April 2012 when they head to Hampden in February and Ogilvie is pleased to have the derby back on the fixture list.

He said: "There has been a lot of comment on the game, of course, some of it negative.

"It's a massive game, we haven't had it here for a number of years, so we should focus on the positives. I think it is good for Scottish football."
